A big thumb up for data management interns at CIAT

As a direct response to the increasing demand for data collection, organization and systematization, CIAT recently created a new data and information management team led by the Center’s Program Coordination Unit. This team includes five interns. The purpose of this blog post is to highlight the importance of their contributions in meeting the data needs of the various research programs.

Eight bean lines with the perfect combination: drought resistance and high grain yield

NCB 280, NCB 226, SEN 56, SCR 2, SCR 16, SMC 141, RCB 593, and BFS 67, these are the technical names of the eight elite bean lines identified as parents to start new crossings improved for drought resistance at CIAT’s Bean Program. It has thus been reported in the recently published paper entitled Effective use of water and increased dry matter partitioned to grain contribute to yield of common bean improved for drought resistance.

Are we getting anywhere?

Our highest level global agreements are so urgent that it’s difficult to image how we will even agree on measuring them before their deadlines arrive. We have prepared a policy brief outlining how methods innovated by CIAT researchers and partners can be used as indicators for SDG target 2.5, Aichi target 13, etc.
