Time to talk Internet of Things and agricultural technology

Un tiempo para hablar de Internet de las Cosas y tecnología agrícola

Have you ever heard of the Internet of Things (IoT), that is, the possibility to connect devices used on a daily basis (phones, computers, sensors) to internet and how to handle that information? If you would like to know more about it and its application in agricultural technology, next Wednesday, 23 May, between 11:00 a.m. and 12:00 m. (Colombian time), you will have a chance to join experts and take a close look at the rise of agritech and how green technology can enable more earth-friendly agriculture.

The webinar, sponsored by the prestigious journal Science, aims to show participants, through real examples, how integrating scientific knowledge from ecology and plant biology with agricultural IoT technologies has the potential to support higher productivity and food quality, and to stimulate the spread of more ecoefficient farming practices.

Participants will also have the opportunity to hear about current environmental burdens caused by agricultural expansion and learn what solutions are available to reduce those burdens by applying scientific expertise and new technologies.

The speakers invited to talk about these topics, which draw examples from rice production, are: Dirk B. Hays (Texas A&M University), Manabu Ishitani (CIAT), and Takashi Togami (PS Solutions Corp.); with Sean Sanders, (Science/AAAS) as moderator.
